The Cabin in the Woods provides a new twist on a classic scenario, in this case the young-people-stranded-in-the-woods horror trope. Jenkins and Whitford will play white-collar co-workers with a mysterious connection to the cabin. A group of college kids spend a weekend at a mysterious cabin in the woods.

Hoffentlich ist der "Twist" wirklich gut bzw. die Umsetzung wirklich mal etwas abwechslungsreicher als die herkömmliche Horrorkost.
Sieht aber wirklich vielversprechend aus.

ShockTillYouDrop.com is reporting that MGM Studios has decided to push Joss Whedon's anticipated horror flick The Cabin in the Woods, directed and co-written by Cloverfield's Drew Goddard, back nearly a year, from its original release date of February 5, 2010 to the new date of January 14, 2011.

Shock has learned exclusively that the reason MGM is doing this is because they're spending six months to convert the movie to 3D due to the phenomenal early response to the movie from test screenings, hoping to add another dimension to the horror.

There is nothing else scheduled for that date, which is the four-day weekend to celebrate the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr, although the fourth "Underworld" movie is currently scheduled to open one week later.

MGM hat wohl keine Kohle um ihn rauszubringen, Lionsgate hadert noch. Die Cannes-Premiere kam aber wohl gut an.

Dachte erst, wo das Poster vor Jahren mal gesehen habe, dass ein neuer "Tanz der Teufel" teil raus kommt und das der Titel "Cabin in the Woods" nur "Synonyme-Titel" wäre um die Fans zu überraschen :icon_mrgreen: leider falsch gedacht, aber ich bin trotzdem gespannt auf den Film.  :respekt:

Der Trailer sieht einerseits wirklich prima aus, weil dem inzwischen sattsam bekannten Schema "Twens werden im Hinterland von Freaks abgemurkst" ganz neue Ansätze abgewonnen werden, andererseits hätte ich mir den Trailer lieber nicht angesehen. Wo ist da die Überraschung, wenn der zentrale Twist schon verraten wird und wie viel besser wäre es, gerade einen solchen Film ohne jegliches Vorwissen zu sehen?

Naja, kann ich verstehen - andererseits würden ihn sich sonst wohl nur deutlich weniger Leute ansehen, da sie sich nach dem Lesen der (dann ja ebenfalls vagen Inhaltsangabe) Inhaltsangabe gähnend abwenden würden...  ;)

Die "Genre-Presse" ist jedenfalls schonmal sehr angetan...  :D

The Cabin in the Woods is this generation's Scream, and although it won't redefine or reinvigorate the genre like Craven's savior of a film did, it accomplishes something greater. Who knows what the impact of Goddard's first film will be, but the way it manages to avoid satire entirely - while still establishing a world that champions what we love about the genre - is downright miraculous. A universe is created that the characters inhabit where Goddard and Whedon are gods, and we are all damn lucky to be living in it, too.

Nachdem die ersten 2/3 durchzogen sind von zu erwartenden Meta-Spielereien, explodiert der Film dann im Schluss zu einem wirklich erfrischend schrillen und in der Gänze eigentlich kaum zu glaubenden Mischmasch aus diversen Genres , dass auffordert den eigenen Suspension of disbelief nicht weiter zu dehnen sondern besser gleich implodieren zu lassen. Ich hatte lange nicht mehr einen solchen Spaß bei einem Horrorfilm.

Ich möchte im Vorhinein auch gar nicht viel mehr wissen über den Film. Allerdings hoffe ich doch sehr, dass der Genre-Mischmasch sich nicht so darstellt wie zuletzt im letzten Drittel von "Livid".

The Cabin in the Woods opened in third place with an estimated $14.9 million. That pales in comparison to some of distributor Lionsgate's non-supernatural horror movies (most of the Saw series, My Bloody Valentine 3-D, and the first Hostel movie), though in general it isn't a terrible start. In fact, among horror comedies, The Cabin in the Woods's debut ranks seventh all time behind the four Scary Movie flicks, Ghostbusters II and Zombieland.

The audience was 57 percent male and 65 percent over the age of 25, and they gave the movie an awful "C" CinemaScore. That score, along with the modest opening, is indicative of the challenges associated with selling satire (which Cabin in the Woods most definitely qualifies as). The title and stock characters (the jock, his girlfriend, the geek, the stoner, and the virgin) are intentionally generic, and from a cursory glance it would appear that the movie isn't even trying to be original. That probably kept the movie from reaching a larger audience, though the group that did show up was predominantly expecting a straightforward horror movie. By delivering something much different, the movie delighted a small group of audience members while generally frustrating those whose expectations were subverted. Moviegoers like to know what they are in for when they go to see a movie, and when it turns out to be something different the movie tends to get punished in exit polling.
