Mmh... der Mann macht es sich schön einfach, in dem er behauptet dass vieles zu schwarz/weiß in der Vorlage dargestellt wurde. Der hat wohl einen anderen Comic als ich gelesen, da es reichlich Konflikte innerhalb der Gruppen um Kaneda, Tetsuo und dem Militär gibt.

Einzig gute Idee ist, das ganze Projekt auf eine Trilogie zu strecken... wobei ich auf noch mehr hoffe! Letztens wurde ja gemeldet, dass Guy Ritchie eine 6-teilige Kino-Reihe der Artus-Saga plant. Wenn so ein Projekt Erfolg haben sollte, dann könnte das wieder mal den Produktionsapparat Hollywood umkrempeln. Im Fall von Akira wäre es schade, wenn versucht wird zu viel in einen Film zu packen und dabei ganze Charaktere und deren Handlungsstränge auf eine Handvoll Szenen oder ganz zu kürzen. Klar, es hängt alles vom Erfolg eines ersten Films ab, aber mit etwas Risikofreude und den richtigen Produzenten hinter dem Projekt könnte ein langlebiges und einträgliches franchise draus werden... etwas, wo nach WB doch seit Potter sucht (ok, evtl. in DC wiedergefunden hat).

Angeblich soll Dante Harper (Edge of Tomorrow) das Drehbuch liefern. Keine Ahnung, ob das jetzt gute oder schlechte Nachrichten sind, da ich den letzten Cruise noch nicht gesehen habe und bisher allerlei Meinungen dazu gehört habe... Ich glaub, bevor ich mich wieder mal selbst zitiere lasse ich die Info mal sacken und warte (die nächsten Jahre) ab, was noch so passiert.

Jaume Collet-Serra says there has been no progress on the Akira remake

Some movies spend an eternity in development hell before finally becoming a reality. Others become warnings to filmmakers or bedtime stories that keep Hollywood executives awake. The live action remake of AKIRA is one of those films. For years, everyone from Leonardo DiCaprio, Stephen Norrington, Allen and Albert Hughes, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Zac Efron, Morgan Freeman, James Franco, Keanu Reeves, Keira Knightley, and Gary Oldman were involved and nothing happened. Most recently, ORPHAN and RUN ALL NIGHT director Jaume Collet-Serra was named the man in charge of the film. He even seemed to be making progress on developing a unique vision. Then, nothing.

At a recent press event for RUN ALL NIGHT, Collider caught up with the director and asked about the status of the film. Has there been any progress on AKIRA?

    "No, no. There's nothing."

Having made two films in three years (NON-STOP and RUN ALL NIGHT), Collet-Serra is ready to take a break. That usually means they are not involved with a project any longer, but he could have just come out and said the project was dead. When pressed for further details on the status of the movie, Collet-Serra just said it is up to Warner Bros when it happens.

AKIRA has always seemed like a bad idea for a remake. The anime is regarded as one of the best of all time and every live action version has been sorely lacking in Asian actors. Whitewashing something like AKIRA seems like a bad idea. Maybe Warner Bros has thought long and hard about it and decided not to proceed with the project. For now, we can likely assume the remake is headed back into development hell, but stranger things have happened.

Marco J. Ramirez, the 'Sons of Anarchy' scribe who will oversee the second season of 'Daredevil,' will adapt the manga classic.

Warner Bros. is revving up the engines again for Akira.

Marco J. Ramirez, the scribe who will be co-showrunning the second season of Netflix's Daredevil, will write Akira, the Warner Bros. long-in-the-works adaptation of the Japanese manga classic.

Andrew Lazar (American Sniper) and Leonardo DiCaprio's shingle Appian Way are producing the adaptation, which has faced plenty of ups and downs since Warners acquired the rights to the manga in 2008. While numerous writers, directors and stars darted to and from the project, the closest it came to getting made was in 2012 when Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, Ken Watanabe and Helena Bonham Carter were in various stages of dealmaking.

Jaume Collet-Serra was to direct when the plug was pulled and the Vancouver facilities closed due to casting, script and budget issues...
