"SuperHeroHype reports that that Green Lantern visual effects supervisor Karen Goulekas (The Day After Tomorrow, Spider-Man) has announced on her Blog that the film got the official green light yesterday (Wednesday) and that filming will start in 10 weeks (sometime in March). To be directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, GoldenEye), Green Lantern will star Ryan Reynolds and is scheduled for a June 17, 2011 release."

The "Green Lantern" was created in 1940 by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell. Introduced in 1959, Hal Jordan is a second-generation test pilot, an ordinary man who was given the power ring and battery (lantern) by a dying alien named Abin Sur. When Abin Sur's spaceship crashed on Earth, the alien used his ring to seek out an individual to take his place as Green Lantern: someone who was "utterly honest and born without fear."

Ok, der Green Lantern im Film wird der Testpilot Hal Jordan sein, hatte ich mir schon gedacht, ist ja auch der bekannteste von allen. Es wurde auch bekannt gegeben, das Blake Lively dessen Freundin Carol Ferris spielen wird.

Ich freue mich. Mein letzter Stand war Jack Black für die Hauptrolle, da sieht das ja jetzt schon vielversprechender aus. Campbell kann eh gut Action, und Hals Ring-Superkraft ist ohnehin ein Füllhorn für coole Szenen. Sage ich jetzt mal so, als durchschnittlicher McDonalds-KinoNews-Leser.

Sarsgaard to Play Green Lantern Villain

Peter Sarsgaard is in talks to play villain Dr. Hector Hammond in director Martin Campbell's Green Lantern, reports Heat Vision. Hammond is a pathologist and son of a senator who is seen as a disappointment in his father's eyes. He becomes infused with psychic powers when he discovers a meteor.

Sarsgaard is joining Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively in the Warner Bros. comic book adaptation, opening in theaters on June 17, 2011.

Filming is scheduled to start in March in New Orleans. Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti are producing.

Mark Strong in Talks to Play Sinestro

Talking to MTV Splash Page earlier today, Green Lantern director Martin Campbell has debunked early rumors that Jackie Earle Haley was first in line to play Hal Jordan's greatest enemy Sinestro. Instead, Mark Strong, recently seen as Lord Blackwood in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes and soon to be seen in Matthew Vaughn's upcoming Kick-Ass, is in talks for the part.

"He's not only a wonderful actor, but he looks like Sinestro. If you look up old pictures of Sinestro, he's very like him," he told them. "The Jackie Earle Haley thing, somebody told me about it this morning; I had never heard it before in my life."

They also asked him about some of the other characters who might appear in the movie to which Campbell replied: "Well, Kilowog will be. Tomar-Re is in it. Sinestro is in it. Abin Sur is in it. All the origin people. Carol [Ferris], of course, who will be played by Blake Lively. All the main characters are there, and it's a complex story. The origin story of Green Lantern is complex, probably one of the most complex, which makes it a challenge to get it right."

Tim Robbins Joins Green Lantern Cast

Tim Robbins has joined the cast of director Martin Campbell's Green Lantern at Warner Bros. Pictures, reports Heat Vision.

Robbins will play Senator Hammond, the disapproving father of the movie's villain, Dr. Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard), who becomes infused with psychic powers.

Ryan Reynolds stars as Green Lantern, with Blake Lively as the hero's love interest, Carol Ferris.

Filming is set to star in March in New Orleans. The studio is planning a June 17, 2011 release.

Green Lantern Production Begins Today!
"Back from an amazing trip to Green Lantern town a.k.a. New Orleans!! Ryan IS Hal."

Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment's first ever live-action adaptation of the Emerald Knight is taking a big step forward today with the start of principal photography for Green Lantern. With that news also comes some final casting announcements for the supporting cast, including the actor who will play the part of passing the Green Lantern ring to Ryan Reynolds' Hal Jordan.

According to On Location Vacations, Geoff Johns, recently named Chief Creative Officer of DC Entertainment, made a trip to the Green Lantern set in New Orleans and came back with nothing but praise. They're now reporting that the official start day for the project is today and that they'll be filming a bar scene at the Old Point Bar downtown.

Temuera Morrison, who played Jango Fett and the clones in the second and third Star Wars prequels has been selected by director Martin Campbell to play Abin Sur, the alien who crash lands on Earth, passing the Green Lantern Ring to Ryan Reynolds' character.

Angela Bassett will lead the Suicide Squad in Green Lantern



Angela Bassett has signed on to join Martin Campbell's Green Lantern, playing the role of Amanda Waller.

In the comics, Waller is a covert ops director
specializing in "metahuman affairs." She is also the head of the Suicide Squad, an agency tasked with chaperoning captured supervillains who work with the government to make deals for their eventual freedom.

Jon Tenney is Green Lantern's Dad  



"The Closer" star Jon Tenney will play Hal Jordan's dad, test pilot Martin H. Jordan, in director Martin Campbell's Green Lantern.

Tenney said: "'The Closer's' letting me shoot off in June a little bit, and I'm doing a little picture called 'Green Lantern,' and that will be fun! Ryan Reynolds is the Green Lantern, and when he is a young boy, like 11, I'm his father. I'm Hal Jordan's dad. I'm very excited – it's incredible company,"

So what does he think of the script? "Well, it's under lockdown, that script. It's very, very secretive. They're only releasing sections of it, so they're keeping everybody in the dark. What I've read is amazing. And 'Green Lantern' was one of my favorite comic book characters as a kid."

Green Lantern is currently shooting in New Orleans and will hit theaters on June 17, 2011.

Green Lantern's Suit Will Be CG!

Director Martin Campbell has been filming Green Lantern down in New Orleans for over a month now, and there was bound to be some leaked information from the set. The latest is from /Film, who have discovered that Ryan Reynolds has spent his time on set wearing a grey motion/performance capture suit, the reason being that the Green Lantern suit in the movie will be created using computers.

Before you get all up in arms, we should remember that the production is in the very early stages, and some of this could be done for digital duplication of the actor, which is done a lot in superhero movies, like in Spider-Man - in fact, some of the FX are being done by Sony Pictures Imageworks who did that CG although special FX supervisor Clay Pinney's only superhero work was Ivan Reitman's My Super Ex-Girlfriend (But he also performed the same function on The Matrix Reloaded--remember all those really lifelike Agent Smith clones?)

But /Film picked up on more than a few clues as to the reason why the suit might be added via CG later which all sound perfectly legit. The following are the three we find the most intriguing:

Ngila (Dickson, costume designer) was tasked with trying to find a way to do something that stands apart from all of the other superheroes spandex suit designs we've seen in the past.

The Green Lantern suit is something that should look alien — it needs to seem other worldly. It encompasses any creature that wears the ring, and Hal Jordan is the first human to ever wear the suit. This was a chance for Dickson to do something different. You also have to consider that Hal changes into the suit multiple times in mid scene, and the cg also allows him to do this.

I've heard that when the cg is complete, the suit will look like a manifestation of his power.

That last bit is the one that really drives the nail home because Green Lantern's costume is in fact created by the ring; it's not something he takes out of the closet and puts on. Clearly Martin Campbell and his team want to make sure that Reynolds isn't just wearing the same spandex or leather costume we've seen in so many superhero movies and using CG to create and/or enhance would go a long way to make Green Lantern look really cool and unique from other comic book characters.

Ich hoffe nur, das der Film nicht zu einen reinen Schleimfilm wird und die Grüne Leuchte nur als Vorwand dient, ein schnulziges Liebesabenteuer zu drehen

Sieht gut aus. Konnte auch schon viel Bekanntes erkennen. Die ersten paar Sekunden dachte ich einen Trailer von "The Flash" zu sehen, sind sich charakterlich ja ähnlich.  ;) Auf Flash freue ich mich auch schon und noch mehr auf Wonder Woman... dann kommt ja noch der Justice League Film.
