Predator: "Badlands" & "Killer of Killers" (erneut von Dan Trachtenberg)

In June, it was revealed that Super 8's Elle Fanning had been cast in the film.

Now, the folks at AVPGalaxy have learned that Badlands is currently in production in New Zealand, filming under the codename Backpack, and they've gotten their hands on a casting call that reveals some details about the project!

According to this casting call, Predator: Badlands has the following synopsis: A groundbreaking film in which one of the two main storylines delves into the intricate bond of two very different sisters, their familial ties are put to the ultimate test as they pursue divergent paths and missions.

We've previously heard that the story is set sometime in the future. (Joblo.com)

Speaking with Empire, Trachtenberg revealed, "The creature is front and center, leading the charge. He's still badass, but there's something there that touches you emotionally, too. Creating a character you connect with, but are also super-intimidated by, has been challenging. But exciting." The idea for Predator: Badlands came from Trachtenberg's desire to "find another essential piece of cinema that does what Prey did spiritually — pushing the franchise's boundaries, letting us root for a hero we rarely get to root for — but in a different way. And that transformed into this big idea of rooting for the Predator."

Wenn die zuviel Geld haben bzw. mit dem Kinostart (den es ja wohl geben soll) selbiges verbrennen möchten, bitte. Damit das so richtig funktioniert, empfehle ich noch ein paar Musical-Einlagen mit einem singenden/tanzenden Predator. Lady Gaga als Partnerin hat wahrscheinlich keine Lust mehr, aber irgendwer lässt mit hinreichend Geld bestimmt überreden.

Das sehe ich anders. Bei den "AvP"-Geschichten (inklusive der Comics) haben Predators im Prinzip ja schließlich auch schon als Leads fungiert... und das hat ganz ordentlich geklappt. Außerdem ist "nicht-08/15" bei mir immer willkommen - selbst wenn am Ende nicht unbedingt ein voll überzeugendes Ergebnis dabei herauskommt...

Wenn der wirklich in die Kinos kommt, werden wir sehen, wer richtiger liegt (rein kommerziell). An sich hätte nach dem gut angekommenen Prey ja nichts dagegen gesprochen, den erneut im Umfeld der Native Americans spielen zu lassen.

Generell fällt aber schon auf, dass Hollywood sich mit der Frage, was in einem Sequel vorkommen sollte, derzeit relativ schwer tut - da oszilliert man tendenziell zwischen "einfach remaken" (Alien, just Gladiator 2) und "möglichst auf den Kopf stellen" (Joker Deux). Und gefühlt war die Flopgefahr auch nie so groß, selbst wenn die Hits diesen Jahres (Deadpool, die Familienfilme) auch Sequels waren.

Etwas mehr zur Story:

Badlands follows a younger Predator outcast trying to prove himself after getting banished from his tribe. The Predator looks different from any other we've seen in other films like he's a teenager. Elle Fanning is not the victim getting chased in Predator: Badlands. Instead, she's teamed up with the Predator. She doesn't appear to be human. Is she synthetic? It's hard to say; there are no dead giveaways. The story takes place in a world that could be the Predator's home planet.

Predator: Killer of Killers is a three-part animated anthology that showcases Yautja warriors hunting human prey across global history. It'll premiere as a Hulu exclusive on June 6th, 2025. The voice cast includes Lindsay LaVanchy, Louis Ozawa, Rick Gonzalez, and Michael Biehn.

"Predator: Killer of Killers, an original animated action-adventure film set in the Predator universe, will premiere June 6th, 2025, exclusively on Hulu. The anthology story follows three of the fiercest warriors in human history: a Viking raider guiding her young son on a bloody quest for revenge, a ninja in feudal Japan who turns against his Samurai brother in a brutal battle for succession, and a WWII pilot who takes to the sky to investigate an otherworldly threat to the Allied cause.
