According to Sullivan and producer Christopher Tuffin, it is as much a wild re-imagining of the preceding films as a sequel to them. Their intention was to raise the stakes beyond the ordinary glut of by-the-numbers horror releases to create a smart, genre-defying feature that pushes every limit to the extreme. Tuffin compares "Maniacs" to an episode of "South Park" or "The Simpsons" in the sense that "Maniacs" is nothing less than a carnival house mirror held up to American culture.
"Over the years I was approached many times to write and direct a sequel, but I waited until we not only had a storyline that served as a worthy successor to "2001 Maniacs", but also the creative freedom to push the envelope open even further in a smart and funny way," says Sullivan. "Then on the eve of the election of Barack Obama as the nation's first African-American president, I saw the opportunity to once again use the residents of Pleasant Valley as vehicle to expose the deep rooted prejudices of all segments of our society in a way that would hopefully make everyone realize the absurdity of their biases, while also sneaking in a few laughs in at the same time."

Ich stehe Sequels zweifelhaft gegenüber, wo die Hauptpersonen (hier im ersten Teil Englund) ausgetauscht wurden, das kann andeuten, dass entweder das Budget zu gering war, oder der Schauspieler das Drehbuch scheisse fand - hoffentlich hat das hier andere Gründe!
Englund war ein Highlight des ersten Teils - dass nun der fürs Chargieren bekannte Moseley ausgerechnet den Part übernommen hat, stimmt mich doch ein wenig skeptisch. Ansonsten bin ich mal gespannt: Teil 1 war ja einigermaßen in Ordnung...
Ein geringes Budget und ein schlechtes Drehbuch müssen nicht zwangsweise für Englunds Nichtauftreten stehen - immerhin hat er auch bei "Zombie Strippers" mitgespielt... :icon_twisted: ...und das ist für mich ne ganz andere Liga als "2001 Maniacs"! ;)
Da werfe ich doch gleich mal "Killer Tongue" mit in den Topf.
Moseley hat mir jüngst in Repo ganz gut gefallen; Sequel soll ruhig kommen!
Eine Fortsetzung kann ja nur besser werden. Ich fand 2001 Maniacs ziemlich öde und als Dennis den mit mir geguckt hat, gab's fast ein Messerkampf, weil er nicht einsehen wollte, dass ich den langweilig finde, gell Dennis? :icon_lol:

Die Bekehrung der Ungläubigen ist in der Tat manchmal schwer.
Auf dem FFF war das eigentlich das Trashfest des Jahres, und in Berlin wegen technischer Schwierigkeiten sogar der Abschlußfilm nach dem Abschlußfilm. :dodo:

Mit 200 anderen Gorenasen im Kino kommt der Film mit Sicherheit auch besser als allein mit dem Gorepapst auf der Couch ;)
