Jim and Ewan get smoochy in Sundance smash
Fifteen Years ago, Jim Carrey romanced Cameron Diaz in The Mask. This year, he gets together on-screen with Diaz's A Life Less Ordinary castmate Ewan McGregor, in dark comedy-drama I Love You Phillip Morris. It's a love triangle, we have to confess, that we didn't see coming.
In the movie, which recently premiered to great acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival, Carrey plays Steven Russell, a gay conman who is sent to prison and falls in love with a fellow inmate, Phillip MOrris (Ewan McGregor). When both are released, Steven returns to his scamming lifestyle to shower the unwitting Phillip with presents.
"Their sexuality is window-dressing," says Carrey, at Sundance's Queer Lounge venue. "We didn't want to make an issue movie - we wanted to make a movie about people in love. And they happen to be gay." Chips in McGregor: "It's deep... in a superficial way!"
