:dodo:
Hui, Ridley Scott.

ZitatQuestion: What attracted you to Halo?
(Peter) Jackson: I'm a fan of the game.
Question: But video game movies suck.
Jackson: They do.
Question: So what will be different?
Jackson: Hopefully it won't suck.
Question: But why not direct?
Jackson: I want a break. I want to have the fun but not the hard work. I just want to be part of the creative team but not actually have the pain.
Question: Is there a director?
Jackson: Not yet, no. We're talking to some people but we're going to be shooting that next year. [...]
Question: Are you surprised with the positive reaction to the Halo script?
Jackson: Well, I'm pleased, yeah. You never know what to expect.

Source: Empire Online, December 8, 2005
Empire Online reports that the rumors are true - Halo executive producer Peter Jackson (King Kong, "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy) has approached Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro about taking on the video game adaptation. Unless Halo can wait, however, it looks more like del Toro will be doing Hellboy 2 instead. He talked a bit about the sequel.
"It's going really good," said del Toro, who's completed a script. "It's about the fairy world and the mythical creatures all rebelling against humanity and saying it's the end of mankind and it's the season for the sons of the Earth. And basically Hellboy has to try to repress or suppress that rebellion."
The magazine says Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones, David Hyde-Pierce and Rupert Evans are all coming back, while "Hellboy" creator Mike Mignola is also on board. "He should be reading the screenplay right now," laughed Guillermo.
However, Hellboy 2 is still awaiting the big greenlight before filming can take place. "We're budgeting," del Toro added. "I'm very much looking forward to it. I wanna do it. It's still on the front burner, but it's all about budget."
In the back of Guillermo's mind is the Halo big screen adaptation. "'Halo' is very much an interesting project because it's so full of monsters. It's a big temptation. I'm in talks with them [Universal and Bungie Films] and Peter, but it's not true that it's on and Hellboy's off. Hellboy's on. If everything goes as planned, Hellboy will go."
If Hellboy 2 happens, it's possible Halo could go to another director. "The ideal for me would be to do 'Hellboy 2' and if 'Halo' doesn't go away, then yeah, I'd love to do both. But it may go to somebody else. We'll see."
A New Halo Screenwriter
Source: GameSetWatch, July 14, 2006
In an interview with GameSetMatch, DB Weiss tells the site that he is writing Halo for Universal Pictures:
I write for film now, mostly – appropriately enough, I'm currently adapting Halo for producers Mary Parent, Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh. I've got another novel finished that needs a second draft – and maybe someday, I'll be able to work in games. I certainly hope so.
28 Days Later scribe Alex Garland wrote the previous draft.
The film is based on the popular Microsoft video game in which Master Chief, the last Spartan, and a brave band of human soldiers risk everything to halt the terrifying Covenant onslaught.
Halo Director Announced!
Source: Universal Pictures August 10, 2006
Neill Blomkamp will direct the Halo motion picture, to be produced by Academy Award® winners Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh under their WingNut Films banner for Universal Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox.
Blomkamp is making his directorial debut on the film. He is widely regarded as one of the most innovative and original artists currently working in short films and commercial advertising. Halo will be distributed domestically by Universal and internationally by Fox. Visual effects, miniatures, and creature design and creation will all be handled by Jackson's award-winning Weta Digital Ltd. and Weta Workshop, Ltd., most recently known for their Oscar-worthy work on "The Lord of the Rings" films.
A native of South Africa, Blomkamp directed the acclaimed 2005 short film, Alive in Joburg, that depicted a future in which extraterrestrials have become refugees. Last year, Blomkamp also received three Clio Awards and a Visual Effects Society Award for his television commercial Citroen-Alive with Technology. In 2004, Blomkamp was recognized as "One of the Top Five Directors to Watch" at the First Boards Awards and was a featured artist at the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase at Cannes. He has also been nominated for an Emmy award for his work on an episode of James Cameron's "Dark Angel."
Mary Parent, Scott Stuber and Peter Schlessel will produce Halo. The film is currently targeted for a summer 2008 worldwide release. Halo will be shot in Wellington, New Zealand, and will make use of the full range of Jackson's state-of-the-art production and post-production facilities there, including Weta, Stone Street Studios, and Park Road Post.
"As a gaming fan, I'm excited to bring Halo's premise, action and settings to the screen with all the specificity and reality today's technology can provide," said Jackson. "Fran and I are intrigued by the unique challenges this project offers, and we're delighted to be working again with our friends at Universal, and with our new ones at Fox and Microsoft. With Neill on board, I'm even more excited by the potential of this project."
It's game over for Universal's and Fox's participation in the feature adaptation of Microsoft's "Halo."
Both of the studios that agreed to co-finance the screen adaptation of the popular Microsoft game have abruptly backed out of the picture.
Variety.com (http://www.variety.com/VR1117952317.html?query=halo)
Mal sehen welches Studio nun einspringt.
comingsoon.net (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=17271)

:respekt:
ZitatWeta Workshop are supplying a range of products for all the Halo shorts, in a collaboration between Bungie Studios, director Neill Blomkamp, Weta Workshop, Origami Digital LLC and HT Limited.
We have created a fully functioning four wheel drive Warthog, with a working gun, digital displays, airbags and the ability for the Warthog to crab crawl as well as four wheel steer.
The Live Action Trailer created for the Halo3 short films teased fans at this years E3 conference and the second teaser has just been released online.

ZitatThe Halo Movie is "Dead"
Source: Creativity Online, October 5, 2007
Creativity Online has posted a new interview with Neill Blomkamp who was set to the big screen Halo movie until everything went downhill last year. Here's a quote on the movie:
The film is entirely dead. In the configuration it was in. Whatever happens with that movie, assuming that movie gets made, will be a totally different configuration. It's not so much me as the entire vessel sank. Basically, it was a combination of; there were two studios involved that weren't getting along in the process of making it, Universal and Fox. That kind of stuff happens, it's a fragile industry. So the film collapsed at the end of last year, and it's been dead, ever since then. I'll be curious to see what happens.
