Mich wundert, dass bei Mr. Ts Vorliebe für den Italo-Western fast nur die Rede von US-Darstellern ist - wo Tarantino doch gerade mit IB einigermaßen erfolgreich mit europäischen Darstellern gearbeitet hat. Bei dem momentanen Cast muss ich eher an weitgehend klassische US-Western wie Silverado, The Quick and the Dead oder Open Range denken. Nicht das die schlecht wären, nur irgendwie passt das halt überhaupt nicht zum geschätzt nihilistischen Italo-Style. Aber gut, Tarantino hat ja schon oft sein Spiel mit derlei Erwartungshaltungen getrieben (dennoch glaube ich immer noch, dass Diane Krüger und Till Schweiger für IB nicht gerade die beste Wahl waren).

SCORE:
Zugegeben, die klassischen Italo-Western-Scores hat er schon ziemlich massiv eingesetzt, aber dass er mit seiner typisch postmodernen Art des Score-Recyclings nun ausgerechnet bei einem Western (meinetwegen auch Southern) aufhört, halte ich für unwahrscheinlich. Er hat doch zumeist schon sehr konkrete Vorstellungen, wie die Musik sein soll und wo ist der Sinn, wenn jemand wie Morricone (oder Bacalov, Ortolani, Nicolai ....) sich einfach nur selbst kopiert? Wichtig ist für mich nur, dass er sich nicht wieder an so klasssichen Scores, die jeder kennt, vergreift (A Fistful of Dollar in Kill Bill ging für mich nicht in Ordnung) und ich hoffe doch, dass er so wie bei den Schauspielern auch bei der Musik weiterhin auch auf Europäer setzt (nicht, dass es am Ende nur Bernstein, Tiomkin und Konsorten zu hören gibt).

Don Johnson Joins Tarantino's Django Unchained

Variety reports that Don Johnson has been cast in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained. The former "Miami Vice" star will be joining Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx (who played Ricardo Tubbs in the Miami Vice movie), Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, Gerald McRaney, Dennis Christopher, Kurt Russell, Laura Cayouette and M.C. Gainey in the December 25, 2012 release.

In the film, Django (Foxx) is a freed slave, who under the tutelage of a German bounty hunter (Waltz) becomes a badass bounty hunter himself. After assisting Waltz on taking down some bad guys for profit, he is in turn assisted by Waltz in tracking down his slave wife and liberating her from an evil plantation owner (DiCaprio).

Johnson will play a plantation owner named Spencer Bennett.

Filming is set to start in November. The Weinstein Company will distribute domestically and Sony Pictures overseas.

Nachdem das hier schon ziemlich definitiv aussieht (Cast usw.) freue ich mich definitiv auf diesen doch ziemlich krude anmutenden Schauspielerbrei.  ;)
Ich vertraue dem guten alten Quentin da voll und ganz.
Am meisten freu ich mich wohl auf Leonardo als Plantagenbesitzer, hoffe der kommt so rueber wie Christopher Walken in Welcome To The Jungle.

RZA has joined the cast of of Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, reports Variety. He'll play Thaddeus, a slave working on a Southern plantation.

Tarantino Taking a Gamble on Sacha Baron Cohen

Variety is reporting that actor/comic Sacha Baron Cohen is in final negotiations to join Quentin Tarantino's star-studded Western Django Unchained, playing a gambler named Scotty who buys the title character's wife as a companion. It's reportedly a small role but Tarantino was adamant on having Baron Cohen play the part.

The slave-turned-bounty hunter Django himself is played by Jamie Foxx while Leonardo DiCaprio and Christoph Waltz are the other primary leads in a cast that includes Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Don Johnson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Kerry Washington, Anthony LaPaglia, RZA, and more.

In the meantime, you can see Baron Cohen in Martin Scorsese's Hugo, opening November 23.

The Weinstein Company will release Django Unchained on December 25, 2012, with Sony releasing the movie internationally.

Da Sacha Baron Cohen recht wandlungsfähig ist (Sweeney Todd), mache ich mir da gar keine Sorgen und bin sogar sehr gespannt, was QT mit ihm anstellt. Schweiger war ja auch ein Problemkind und der wurde von QT auch brauchbar in Szene gesetzt - so gut es halt ging.  :icon_mrgreen:

Seit er angekündigt wurde, warten wir auf erstes Bildmaterial vom neuen Quentin Tarantino-Film. Mit Django Unchained nimmt sich der Inglourious Basterds-Macher dem Western-Genre an. Die ersten Bilder aus dem Film zeigen, wie das aussehen wird.


Vor zwölf Tagen gab es das erste Poster zum neuen Film von Quentin Tarantino. Django Unchained nimmt sich des Western-Genres, insbesondere des Spaghetti-Westerns und der Legende um den klassischen Sarg-schleppenden Helden Django (Franco Nero) an. Hier wird die Rolle des Django allerdings von Jamie Foxx gespielt. Auch der seit Inglourious Basterds bereits Tarantino-erfahrene Christoph Waltz wird als Kopfgeldjäger Dr. King Schultze dabei sein. Erste Bilder vom Set sowie das offizielle Poster konnten wir euch schon präsentieren. Heute fanden wir die ersten beiden Fotos aus dem Film, die uns verraten, wie Django wirklich aussehen wird. Außerdem gibt es ein paar Fotos von einer Pressekonferenz in Cancun, bei der moviepilotin Anna zugegen war.

   
In Django Unchained geht es um den entflohenen Sklaven Django (Jamie Foxx), der sich mit Dr. King Schultze zusammentut, um seine Frau Broomhilda (Kerry Washington) zu finden. Die wurde nämlich vom üblen Sklavenhändler Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) gefangengenommen. Zusammen mit seiner rechten Hand Steven (Samuel L. Jackson) wird er dafür sorgen, dass der Rettungsversuch von Django und Schultze kein Zuckerschlecken wird. Smarte Sprüche inklusive. Auf den Bildern könnt ihr Django und Schultze sehen, wie sie in entsprechender Badass-Kleidung über die hölzernen Bürgersteige flanieren. Ich brauche auch so ein ... Lamellen-artiges Ding wie das, das Christoph Waltz da von den Schultern hängt. Auch von Leonardo DiCaprio ist ein Bild dabei. Mit Evil-Bart und Zigarette im Mund schwingt er seinen Hammer durch die Luft. Wen wird er damit wohl foltern? Auch sein Zwirn ist nicht übel und hat etwas Satanisches. Django Unchained scheint wieder einmal herrlich übertrieben zu sein.

Bereichert wird der Film außerdem von Sacha Baron Cohen, Kurt Russell, RZA, Anthony LaPaglia und Don Johnson. Jamie Foxx sagte Entertainment Weekly außerdem, dass der Film sicher kontrovers wird und sein Django als Richard Roundtree trifft Clint Eastwood beschreiben lässt. [Quentin Tarantino] hat einen wunderbaren Weg gefunden, die Charaktere miteinander sprechen zu lassen. Es ist augenöffnend. Das hast du so noch nicht gehört. Du hast Filme über Sklaverei gesehen oder Western, die sich mit Sklaverei befassen, aber immer auf einem sanften Weg. Dieser Weg ist einfach...wow. Bevor auch wir vollends aus dem Häuschen sind, muss aber erst noch der erste Trailer hineinflattern. Bis zum Kinostart am 31. Januar 2013 ist es schließlich noch eine lange Zeit

Sacha Baron Cohen's departure seems a little more straightforward, with scheduling conflicts precluding his involvement. He was only earmarked for a cameo in any case, so his absence shouldn't rock the boat too much.

Mir gefallen zwar die Filme von Sacha Baron Cohen (bisher) nicht wirklich, aber seine kleine Rolle in Sweeney Todd war doch recht net, und auf den lieben Kurt hab ich mich eigentlich schon etwas gefreut.... naja, schau mer mal

So eine Sauerei. Wäre gerade bei Cohen interessant geworden, was QT mit ihm angestellt wurde und Russell hat sich ja eh schon etabliert in Death Proof.

Allerdings wird man schon einen geeigneten Ersatz finden, Russell gefiel mir auch eine Schippe besser, als Costner. Vielleicht wird es ja noch mal gesteigert.

Laut AICN.com wird der Part von Russell nicht neu besetzt, sondern die Rolle von Walton Goggins (The Shield, Justified) wird erweitert - ich glaub auch, dass dies keine schlechte Entscheidung ist, da ich mir Goggins sehr gut als fiesen, rassistischen "Negertrainer" vorstellen kann.

Mann, Mann, Mann, jetzt ist schon Cannes und immernoch kein Trailer ins Sicht, aber wenigstens ein kleiner Bericht über eine 7-Minuten-Preview:

But the evening's main event was Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, and judging by the seven minutes shown tonight, it's going be a raucously entertaining night at the movies. The footage began with bare feet trudging forward, shackled together with padlocks and chains. The slave procession makes its way through an epic montage of scenery - sun-baked plains, towering rock ridges - before ending up in a forest at night. As a horse approaches, the lead slave-trader calls out, "Who's that stumblin' around in the dark? State your business or prepare to get winged!"

The rider turns out to be Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz). He's got a clever horse called Fritz who nods when introduced to people, and a carriage which boasts a giant white tooth on a spring (in a nice touch, it has a filling in it). Schultz quickly demonstrates that he's one deadly dentist, shooting dead the bad guys and, yes, unchaining Django (Jamie Foxx). It's a fast, cool intro, with deft moments of humour (such as Waltz's exasperated glance at the tooth when asked what kind of doctor he is) and a spectacularly gory shot of a head interfacing with a bullet.

Following this, we see Schultz getting Django on a horse — which leads to some horrified reaction shots from white folk — and tooling him up, since both are on a mission of revenge against some vicious types called the Brittle Brothers. Cockily, Django fires rounds into a snowman's eyes, before whirling the pistol back into its holster. Unimpressed, Schultz says, "I think it's safe to say you're faster than a snowman."

We next see the introduction of Don Johnson as a Southern patriarch, at whose plantation Schultz and Django arrive, the latter now wearing an eye-poppingly flamboyant electric-blue suit. While Schultz has a drink with their host, Django heads into the grounds, using an eyeglass to spot one of his foes, who's preparing to lash a black slave with his bullwhip. Cue an ice-cool takedown and a killer QT one-liner: "I like the way you die... boy."

The rest of the footage provided quick looks at other key characters. Leonardo DiCaprio's diabolical Calvin Candie sports a Mephistophelean beard and syrupy accent, telling Django, "You had my curiosity. Now you have my attention." And Samuel L. Jackson seems to have been aged significantly as crafty house slave Stephen: his head is bald with white hair on the sides.

With music cues from Johnny Cash (Ain't No Grave) and James Brown (Payback), the sneak peek played out like a blaxploitation Inglourious Basterds: violent, swaggering and massively entertaining. Whether the movie lives up to this promise will be seen come Christmas. In the meantime, just remember, as Django pointed out at the end of the sizzle reel: "The D is silent."
