Walt Disney Pictures has released the teaser trailer for director Steven Spielberg's highly-anticipated adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic, The BFG. You can watch The BFG movie trailer using the player below!

Disney's The BFG movie tells the imaginative story of a young girl and the Giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country. The BFG (Mark Rylance), while a giant himself, is a Big Friendly Giant and nothing like the other inhabitants of Giant Country. Standing 24-feet tall with enormous ears and a keen sense of smell, he is endearingly dim-witted and keeps to himself for the most part. Giants like Bloodbottler (Bill Hader) and Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement) on the other hand, are twice as big and at least twice as scary and have been known to eat humans, while the BFG prefers Snozzcumber and Frobscottle. Upon her arrival in Giant Country, Sophie, a precocious 10-year-old girl from London, is initially frightened of the mysterious giant who has brought her to his cave, but soon comes to realize that the BFG is actually quite gentle and charming, and, having never met a giant before, has many questions.

The BFG brings Sophie to Dream Country where he collects dreams and sends them to children, teaching her all about the magic and mystery of dreams. Having both been on their own in the world up until now, their affection for one another quickly grows, but Sophie's presence in Giant Country has attracted the unwanted attention of the other giants, who have become increasingly more bothersome. Sophie and the BFG soon depart for London to see Queen Victoria (Penelope Wilton) and warn her of the precarious giant situation, but they must first convince the Queen and her maid, Mary (Rebecca Hall), that giants do indeed exist. Together, they come up with a plan to get rid of the giants once and for all.

Directed by Steven Spielberg from a script by Melissa Mathison, who last teamed with Spielberg on E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, The BFG movie will open in U.S. theaters on July 1, 2016, the year that coincides with the 100th anniversary of Roald Dahl's birth.  (Comingsoon.net)

Der Trailer sieht ja ganz gut aus, aber wenn ich den typischen Spielbergschen Nachtweichzeichner Marke "Hook" sehe, vergeht mir schon die Lust an der Sache.
Dahl ist natürlich ne schöne Vorlage, aber ich fürchte das ist nicht eben mein Lieblingsbuch von ihm.
Daß STSP das kompetent umsetzen wird, steht  natürlich außer Frage.

Die Vorlage von Dahl kenne ich glaube ich nicht. Sieht aber ziemlich gut aus. Ich befürchte allerdings, dass dieser Film zu den inzwischen im Wochenrhythmus startenden >100 Mio. US$-Produktionen zählen könnte, die dieses Jahr eher schlechter an den Kinokassen abschneiden - ähnlich wie "Jack and the Giants" vor drei Jahren. "Gods of Egypt", "The Divergent Series: Allegiant" und "The Huntsman: Winter's War" hat es dieses Jahr ja bereits erwischt.

Roald Dahl schreibt einfach wunderbare Geschichten, die von Leuten vom Fach in wunderbare Filme verwandelt werden.
Charlie und die Schokoladenfabrik, Mathilda, James und der Riesenpfirsich und jetzt BFG.

Traurig, aber immer mit einem Funken Hoffnung. Irgendwie macht das die Geschichten von Roland Dahl aus. Und BFG gehört definitiv dazu.

Für mich ein wunderbares Märchen, traumhaft gespielt und wunderbar erzählt, voller Poesie.

Ich mag Roald Dahl sehr, kenne allerdings das zugrundeliegende Buch dieses Films nicht... Den Film fand ich aber ganz furchtbar. Die Trickeffekte sahen so ungemein künstlich aus und passten sowenig zur Darstellerin, dass ich lieber gleich einen einheitlichen Zeichentrickfilm gehabt hätte. (Oder halt eine Version, die den Größenunterschied ganz altmodisch über die Formen der Montage löst.)

Abgesehen vom Mädchen und dem Riesen besitzt kaum eine Figur einen Hauch von Tiefe... und bei den zwei Hauptfiguren ist es auch kaum mehr als ein Hauch. Die Londoner Kulisse wirkt seltsam leb- & profillos; vielleicht auch deswegen, weil der Film sich kaum von dem kleinen Mädchen entfernt. Dann kommen die ersten Furz- & Arschwitze und überhaupt entpuppt sich das Werk als der infantilste Spielberg seit "Hook". MMn war das sogar der schwächste Spielberg der letzten 45 Jahre... an einen "The Witches" kommt der nicht annähernd heran. :icon_neutral: 5/10

Ich mag Roald Dahl auch sehr und ich liebe Steven Spielberg.

Ich weiß, dass ich hier alle Punkte nur noch einmal wiederhole, aber mir ging es ganz genauso: absolut künstliche Trickeffekte, schlechte Besetzung, Dahl'sche Einflüsse kaum wahrnehmbar und vor allem die besagten Furz-, Schleim- und Arschwitze. Und noch nie habe ich ein so aufwendiges Set gesehen (das "Vintage"-London), das so "tot" gewirkt hat.

Nicht zustimmen kann ich bei der "Hook"-Bewertung. Den fand ich sehr gelungen: tolle Prämisse (Peter Pan als erwachsener Mann), super Besetzung, tolle Ausstattung, kurzweilig etc.

Wie dem auch sei: "The BFG" ist aus meiner Sicht Spielbergs schlechtester Film. 2,5 / 10
