20th Century Fox und Canal Plus werden gemeinsam den neuen Kinofilm "Babylon A.D." finanzieren, ein futuristischer Big-Budget Thriller, bei dem Mathieu Kassovitz ("Gothika") das Drehbuch schreiben und Regie führen wird.

Der Film basiert auf Maurice Dantecs Roman "Babylon Babies", berichtet Variety. Die Geschichte spielt in der nahen Zukunft und dreht sich um genetische Manipulationen. Im Roman bringt ein Söldner eine junge Frau von Russland nach Kanada, als er entdeckt, dass sie durch einen synthetischen Virus verändert wurde. Was in ihr schlummert könnte der Untergang der menschlichen Rasse bedeuten.

"Babylon A.D." wird von Alain Goldmans Legende Films und Kassovitz' MNP Enterprise produziert. Gary Ungar ist Ausführender Produzent. Canal Plus wird den Film in Europa vertreiben, Fox überall außerhalb Europas.

Kassovitz gefällt mir(bis auf Gothika) ganz gut, mal schauen was daraus wird.
Ich bin lieber etwas skeptisch und lasse mich dann überraschen  ;)

Wow, hoert sich schonmal gut an.
Vin Diesel ist eh Pflicht fuer mich, die Geschichte klingt gut und der Regisseur kann was.
"Gothika" sei ihm verziehen, jeder hat mal nen schlechten Tag.

 :icon_eek: 160 Minuten ist ein ganz schöner Brocken für einen Film mit Vin Diesel, steigert aber meine Neugierde ungemein. Mal schauen was da aus dem Hut gezaubert wird!

Hmmmm bin mal gespannt, so richtig überzeugen tun mich bisher die ganzen neuen Muskelprotze aus Hollywood nicht mehr wie Kulttypen a la Stallone, Schwarzenegger & Co. Ich meine hiermit Vin Diesel, The Rock usw.
Die Filme waren bisher auch nicht wirklich mit Kultstatus geprägt !

Hab ihn in einer Pressevorführung gesehen. Ganz nett, aber nix Besonderes. Ziemlich holprig erzählt, Action aber stellenweise ganz gut. Kann mir gut vorstellen, dass hier tatsächlich Handlung rausgekürzt wurde. Meinen Senf dazu gibt's in meinem Blog.

Ganz ehrlich gesagt ist die Action das Einzige was mich an dem Film interessierte.
Und Joe zufolge ist die gut, also freu ich mich noch mehr darauf.
Der Streifen sieht einfach herrlich nach nem Actionknaller aus.

Schön geschrieben! "Vin Diesels 15 Minuten Ruhm sind vorbei"... böse, böse, aber es scheint leider wahr zu sein. Sehr schön auch Dein Review zu Doomsday. Genau so hab ich mir das nach dem Trailer vorgestellt. Bwz. ich dachte "WTF? Ein Klapperschlange-Remake mit der Frau aus.... öh... irgendeiner Serie?"

Tja, Babylon.. das klingt nach "Leih-DVD abwarten".

Der Trailer ist so nichtssagend und läßt den Film so langweilig erscheinen. Da würde ich mir echt vor Kinostart noch ein Besseren wünschen.

Mathieu Kassovitz is pissed off. The French auteur, who first made waves in 1995 with La Haine, is supposed to be celebrating the passion project he's been nursing for the past five years. Instead -- the week before Babylon A.D. hits theaters -- he is nursing a grudge. "I'm very unhappy with the film," he says. "I never had a chance to do one scene the way it was written or the way I wanted it to be. The script wasn't respected. Bad producers, bad partners, it was a terrible experience."

The film, starring Vin Diesel, is an adaptation of the French novel Babylon Babies by Maurice Georges Dantec. It tells the story of a mercenary (Diesel) in the year 2019 who is hired to transport a woman and her guardian from Eastern Europe to New York. "The scope of the original book was quite amazing," says Kassovitz. "The author was very much into geopolitics and how the world is going to evolve. He saw that as wars evolve, it won't be just about territories any more, but money-driven politics. As a director it's something that's very attractive to do."

Diesel emphasizes the movie's theme of smuggling people across national borders. "This whole thing that's happening in Georgia right now is so fresh that no one has even asked about it yet," he says. "We're coming into an age where borders are closing, and I think that our society will be numb to it because of our freedom in the virtual world, our freedom in the Internet."

But according to Kassovitz, Babylon A.D. fails to deliver any of these messages. "It's pure violence and stupidity," he admits. "The movie is supposed to teach us that the education of our children will mean the future of our planet. All the action scenes had a goal: They were supposed to be driven by either a metaphysical point of view or experience for the characters... instead parts of the movie are like a bad episode of 24."
