PET SHOP BOYS AND EISENSTEIN'S BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN

On Sunday, 12 September, 8.30 pm (approx), in Trafalgar Square, London, Pet Shop Boys will perform live a new soundtrack for the classic silent film, Sergei Eisenstein's "Battleship Potemkin". This is a presentation by the ICA (Institute of Contemporary Arts) who last year asked Neil and Chris to write the 73-minute soundtrack which is mainly instrumental but also includes three new songs. As they wanted the music to be a combination of electronics and strings, Neil and Chris approached the German composer, Torsten Rasch, to write orchestral arrangements. These will be played live by the 26-piece Dresdner Sinfoniker. The music will be accompanied by a screening of the film. The event is a free concert.
Chris [Lowe] will be playing keyboards (there may be another keyboard player, as well); Neil [Tennant] will sing and (maybe) play some keyboards. The Dresdener Sinfoniker will play alongside them. The film will be projected above them.
It is planned to release a CD of the "Battleship Potemkin" score. We don't know when yet.
