Mit ,,the Captive" legte Regisseur und Drehbuch-Co-Autor Atom Egoyan 2014 ein sich u.a. um Kindes-Entführung, Pädophilie, Obsessionen, Trauer- und Schuldverarbeitung sowie Voyeurismus rankendes Krimi-Drama vor, welches sich auf mehreren Zeitebenen entfaltet, trotz der ,,abgründigen" Materie auf die direkte Präsentation abstoßender Gegebenheiten verzichtet sowie mit einer kompetenten Besetzung aufwartet, zu der ,,vertraute Gesichter" wie Kevin Durand, Mireille Enos, Rosario Dawson, Bruce Greenwood, Scott Speedman und Ryan Reynolds zählen...

Nicht nur aufgrund seiner erzählerischen und inszenatorischen Ruhe sowie dem verschneiten Setting wirkt der Film insgesamt jedoch etwas zu ,,distanziert und kühl" – gerade auf spezielle zentrale Figuren bezogen, zu denen man sich eine intensivere ,,emotionale Verbindung" gewünscht hätte. Über die ,,Kraft" von Denis Villeneuve´s ,,Prisoners" verfügt ,,the Captive" leider ebenso wenig wie die geradezu ,,hypnotische Atmosphäre" einiger der früheren Werke Egoyans. Zudem wurde es mir am Ende definitiv ein Stück weit zu ,,konventionell"...

Welchen Egoyan muss man gesehen haben? Bin da noch relativ jungfräulich.

Spontan würde ich da "The Sweet Hereafter" ("das Süße Jenseits") und "Exotica" antworten... zumindest meinem Geschmack nach. U.a. wegen der guten Darsteller kann man sich aber ruhig auch mal "Where the Truth Lies" ("Wahre Lügen") und "Chloe" anschauen... obgleich sie schon schwächer als die erstgenannten sind.
