Kann jemand was zur Lauflänge sagen, cut/uncut ?
Ofdb gibt nichts Gescheites her.

What do you think, brother ?
Too much blood, or not enough ?

ZitatPatrick is an australian film directed by Richard Franklin (Psycho 2) made in 1978. The film was once released on vhs in germany in a 20 minutes butchered version, although there are hardly "offensive" scenes. Parts of the story were cut out, and the film starts indeed slowly, perhaps too slow, as there is (too) much time for introductions of the characters, especially the main character : nurse Kathy. The film is mainly about the relationship between Kathy and Patrick and is not in first line about "graphic" shocks and/or horror in the traditional sense. But this happens (inevitably) only in the last minutes of the film.

ZitatIncidentally, this is the full-length version of Patrick. Reference sources give various times from 110 to 115 minutes. This DVD runs 107:08, which would coincide more or less with the British video release (107:28, according to the BBFC website). The extra seconds might well be accounted for by distributor logos, as there are none on this DVD print. The same source quotes the cinema running time as 109:59, though PAL speedup would indicate a time at least a minute and a half longer. I don't know if Patrick was re-edited slightly for UK cinemas, though it wasn't cut by the BBFC for an X certificate. (I doubt it would get any higher than a 15 now.) In the USA, the film was shortened to around 96 minutes.

ZitatThe film's major plot thread, the bond that grows between Kathy and Patrick, was pared down to just the threatening aspects, giving Kathy little reason to want stick around and help the tortured soul. In this form, Patrick was reasonably entertaining, but suffered from several lapses in logic that are adequately explained in this full theatrical version from Elite. The package states it's the "Uncut European Theatrical Version", however, which confuses me seeing that the soundtrack here is neither dubbed nor does it feature the Goblin score, instead featuring the original Australian dialogue track and the Brian May score from the Australian theatrical release, but it does feature the scenes deleted from the U.S. version! I guess that makes this the "director's cut" since it's the uncut film that Europeans saw but Americans missed, coupled with the original Aussie audio tracks and a rather routine score by the May-ster, that NO one outside of Oz had ever heard. The reincorporated footage is a welcome addition, giving the film more body than it's truncated version. We come to understand Kathy's motivations much more now that we see the less volatile moments between her and Patrick, as well as a little more of a glimpse into Kathy's private life, which had previously been presented in such an abbreviated way that I'd once thought she was having an affair instead of a simple relationship while separated from her husband. True, much of what is added is expository, but it does help raise the film above mere copycat status.

;) Komischerweise bisher noch nie was davon gehört.

JasonXtreme

Irgendwann muss ja was passieren! Und dann kommt der Abspann.
