Darren Aronofsky dreht das Drama "The Wrestler" mit Mickey Rourke in der Hauptrolle, nachdem zunächst Nicolas Cage dazu vorgesehen war.

Der Film soll die Biografie des Wrestlers Randy 'The Ram' Robinson darstellen, von dem ich leider bisher nichts gehört habe.

Der Film steht unter Post-Production und die Dreharbeiten sollen Anfang nächsten Jahres beginnen.

Meiner Meinung nach ist Rourke eine wirklich gute Wahl, da er die Physis hat und vor allem die schauspielerischen Leistung aufrufen kann um dieser Rolle gerecht zu werden. Der Mann wurde eh zuwenig gefordert in den letzten Jahrzehnten. Hoffe nur dass er nicht wieder abspringt wie zuletzt bei "Death Proof."
Ich bin gespannt.

Wenders, der in der Jury saß, kritisierte in diesem Zusammenhang die Regel der Venedig Festspiele, dass es nicht möglich sei den Preis für den besten Film und für den besten Hauptdarsteller für ein und denselben Film zu vergeben.
Deshalb habe man sich für diese "Notlösung" entschieden nur dem Film den Preis zu geben. Ansonsten hätte Rourke für seine Darstellung ebenfalls den Hauptpreis bekommen. :icon_eek:

Ich als alter Wrestlingfan bin sehr gespannt auf den Film und hoffe, dass er möglichst bald in Deutschland ins Kino kommt.

Als ich das erste Mal von dem Projekt gehört hatte war ich zugegebenermaßen ziemlich skeptisch, irgendwie musste ich dabei an den Catcherfilm aus "Barton Fink" denken  :icon_lol:...
Inzwischen freue ich mich aber schon tierisch drauf, die Lobeshymnen kommen ja nun wirklich von allen Seiten und Aronofsky ist sowieso einer meiner frühesten Lieblingsregisseure, irgendwie traue ich ihm da einiges zu, auch wenn ich wirklich keinerlei Vorstellung habe, wie der Film aussehen könnte, bzw. worin seine Qualitäten liegen könnten, aber das ist dann ein weiter Grund für mich, den Film anzuschauen  :icon_smile:

Man darf gespannt sein!

Puah, der Trailer sieht seeeehr gut aus und Rourke berührt einfach. Dieses total kaputte Gesicht, man denkt man glaubt bei jeder Bewegung die Knochen mahlen zu hören.

Wie kann man nur.  :icon_eek: Alleine der Song zu THE WRESTLER ist wieder so großartig, kann sein Album kaum erwarten das Ende des Monats erscheint. Verdienter Globe und ich hoffe auf den zweiten oscar für den Boss.

The actor reveals he has been talking with Wwe boss Vince McMahon and his top fighters, and there could be a little real wrestling in his future.

'The Wrestler' Director: Fake Sport, Real Pathos:
How do you make a realistic film about a notoriously "fake" sport?
That was the question Darren Aronofsky faced when he agreed to direct The Wrestler...

"No one's ever made a serious film about wrestling," Aronofsky says, "and I think that is because most people perceive wrestling as a joke, and because it's fake, and they sort of write it off."

There's nothing fake about the action scenes in The Wrestler, though. Aronofsky says all the wrestling scenes were shot with real wrestlers in front of live wrestling audiences.

"They're as much athletes as they are actors," Aronofsky says of the real-life wrestlers depicted in the film. Being backstage with them is "like being backstage at a theater more than it is being backstage at a sporting event. ... They were very natural in front of the camera and very realistic."

As for Rourke, the tragic star of the film, Aronofsky says Rourke is "blessed with more talent in his pinky than most of us have in a lifetime" — which, it turns out, can be both a blessing and a curse.

"It's very easy for him to coast through his work, and I think that's what we've seen for the last 10, 15 years," Aronofsky says. "My biggest job was just to push, pull, encourage, inspire, challenge ... for him to really, really dig deep."

Still, Aronofsky did not waver in his conviction that Rourke was the right actor for the job, and the director says it wasn't just because Rourke had been an athlete:

"Just sitting with him, you look into his eyes and, you know, his body is just all this armor, and he wears all these outfits, and it's all about keeping people away from looking in his eyes, because the second you look into his eyes ... there's so much there."

Aronofsky says that if he has one great accomplishment in the film, it's that there isn't a single scene with Mickey Rourke in sunglasses.

Both Rourke and supporting actress Marisa Tomei have received Oscar nominations for their work in the film. Aronofsky's previous directorial credits include Pi (1998) and Requiem For A Dream (2000).

The wreck that was the SS Rourke had a perilous journey on its way to Darren Aronofsky's shores. The director was keen on casting the damaged-goods actor in the title role of Randy "The Ram" Robinson in The Wrestler, but when no U.S. studio would finance the film with Rourke attached, Aronofsky turned to Nicolas Cage. Then, at the eleventh hour, an overseas studio agreed to back the picture with Rourke, and Cage graciously bowed out of the project. While the director's original choice made sense—who better to play a preening grappler who's seen better days than a preening, pugilistic actor who's seen better days?—no one foresaw the alchemical result of mixing the brainiac enthusiasm of Aronofsky (Pi, Requiem for a Dream) with the on-the-ropes desperation of Rourke: an unapologetic tearjerker that offers Rourke's best performance since Barfly. Randy's similarities to Rourke have been much remarked upon—the way his "the 90s sucked" rant could easily be applied to the actor's fallow decade; the way his whole face seems to have cauliflower ear—and Aronofsky has admitted that The Wrestler's screenplay essentially turned into a collaborative effort when Rourke became involved, with the actor taking a pen to Randy's lines and rewriting them in ways that would resonate with him personally. Rourke Steals The Show At The Independent Spirit Awards

Mickey Rourke added to his award season haul and stole the show at the 2009 Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday with a hilarious and rambling acceptance speech.

A starstudded crowd at the Santa Monica, California ceremony gave the 56-year-old actor a standing ovation when he stepped onstage to collect the Best Male prize for his role as a washed-up grappler in The Wrestler.

During a bizarre speech, he dedicated the award to his beloved pet dog Loki, who died this week (15Feb); threatened to beat up comedian Rainn Wilson, who had impersonated him in an earlier skit; forgot the name of his The Wrestler co-star Marisa Tomei; and broke his microphone.  :icon_lol:

He said, "That little blond dude who did that thing (Wilson), I'm going to beat your ass when I get out of here... I've got thousands of letters about my dog that died six days ago. Loki, Loki, this is for you baby."

And he needed help from the audience when he forgot to thank Tomei, who played a stripper in the film. He said, "My memory ain't that good. I want to thank....." and paused, prompting the crowd to yell "Marisa". He responded by saying, "Melissa? Marisa? Marisa Tomei. She had to do all this bare-a**ed. Not many girls can climb the poll. She climbed the poll and she did it well."

The Wrestler also lifted the Best Feature award and the Best Cinematography prize for Maryse Alberti.

There were also big wins for Best Female Melissa Leo, Best Supporting Female Penelope Cruz, Best Supporting Male James Franco and Best Director Tom McCarthy.

Ich hab bereits Mittwoch die Preview gesehen und fand den Streifen ziemlich gut, Rourke ist schon ne verdammt gute Besetzung, man könnte durchaus Parallelen zwischen ihm persönlich und seiner Rolle ziehen. Das Setting im Wrestling-Umfeld ist allerdings nicht wirklich "wichtig", man hätte den Film auch mit anderen Sportarten drehen können. Für mich als Wrestling-Fan aber schon sehr interessant, da bei Indy-Show gedreht wurde, die ich größtenteils gesehen habe. Ich würde sagen 8.5/10 und als Charakterstudie sehr sehenswert.

Verdammt.Bei uns läuft der Film nirgendswo in der Nähe. Hätte nicht gedacht,dass der nur mit wenigen Kopien anläuft.Ich hoffe,dass der in den nächsten Wochen noch seinen Weg zu uns ins Kino finden wird.

Hab gelesen die Iraner haben sich darüber aufgeregt, weil Mickey im Film  ne iranische Flagge zereißt.
Fand ich auch komisch, das musste echt nicht sein.

ja genau, drehen wir nur noch hundertprozentig politisch korrekte Filme mit hundertprozentig politisch korrekten Hautpfiguren ohne irgendwelche kontroversen Szenen, dann wird die Welt besser!

Weil im Film gezeigt wird, dass der Typ eine iranische Flagge zerreisst, bedeutet das, dass das gesamte Filmteam und jeder, der den Film gut findet, Iraner hasst. Ein Skandal!
