Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (R: Mike Newell, Prod.: Bruckheimer)

Ja, es ist noch früh ... but why not?  ;)

Jerry Bruckheimer has been busy as of late with his Pirates franchise and his countless hit TV shows but still he has been working hard to get other film franchises off the ground. The IESB can exclusively report that his upcoming film, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, has found a director and a release date!
So I am sure you are wondering by now who Jerry has tapped to direct the adaptation of the best selling video game, right?
Bruckheimer has teamed up with him in the past to bring you Bad Boys I and II, The Rock, Pearl Harbor and Armageddon. Yes, that’s right, Michael Bay is directing Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time for a Summer ’09 release.
The IESB was able to confirm with Disney Studios that they are hopeful that Michael Bay will indeed direct the picture right after he is done with this Summer’s blockbuster, Transformers.
You might remember a couple of years ago when we confirmed that Bay was behind Transformers just as he was finishing The Island. So now, just as he is finishing up Transformers, we are announcing that he will in fact be behind Bruckheimer’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
This feature film adaptation is "based on the video game, which follows an adventurous prince who teams up with a rival princess to stop an angry ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world."
The original creator of the game, Jordan Mechner, has said that "Rather than do a straight beat-for-beat adaptation of the new videogame, we're taking some cool elements from the game and using them to craft a new story - much as 'Pirates' [of the Caribbean] did with the theme park ride."
Mechner wrote the first draft of the screenplay for the feature film with subsequent drafts by Jeffrey Nachmanoff.  (IESB.com)

Und wenn Bay absagt, kann ja immer noch Boll einspringen.

Der erste Teil war 90 neben Sim City mein erstes PC Spiel, daß als Grafik mehr als einfache Symbole zu bieten hatte(erinnert sich hier noch jemand an Nethack?), bin also seit 17 Jahren Fan der Reihe, und die neue Trilogie ist astreine Popcorn Action, damit sollte Bruckheimer eigentlich keine Probleme haben.
Ich bin allerdings gespannt, welcher Hollywood Star den persischen Prinzen gibt. Will Smith? ;)

Gyllenhaal and Arterton Cast in Prince of Persia

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Jake Gyllenhaal (who was first rumored by Latino Review) and Gemma Arterton (upcoming Quantum of Solace) will star in Prince of Persa: The Sands of Time, Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films' adaptation of Ubisoft's popular video game. Mike Newell is directing.

In the fantasy adventure, Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a young prince in sixth century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

Doug Miro & Carlo Bernard, Jordan Mechner and Boaz Yakin wrote the script, which is based on the many games created by Jordan Mechner.

Bruckheimer is producing, while Mike Stenson, Chad Oman and Patrick McCormick are exec producing.

Production is set to start in July.

Die Games (kenn nur die 3 neusten Teile) haben gerockt, aber ein Film....

Als das erste Prince Of Persia rauskam war ich 2 Jahre alt. Ich hatte mir von meinem Taschengeld damals das grafisch bessere Super Nintendo Remake gekauft. Ich weiß noch das ich nichtmals durchs erste Level kam und dann verzweifelt das Game verkaufen wollte. Habs dann doch nicht getan.

Die neuen Games sind natürlich eine ganz andere Welt, besonders Warrior Within und The Two Thrones. Die neuen Games konnten mich sehr überzeugen, und eigentlich ist die Story nur dafür gemacht verfilmt zu werden. Ich erwarte eine Trilogie ähnlich in der Art wie Pirates Of Caribbean, zumindest was die Unterhaltung angeht. Kann man nur hoffen das der Prince kein Stars and Stripes Tattoo haben wird. Denn recht interessant klingt das Projekt dann doch irgendwie.

Molina and Kingsley Join Prince of Persia

Alfred Molina and Ben Kingsley will join Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton in Disney's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, the Mike Newell-directed adaptation of the Ubisoft video game. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing.

Variety says Molina will play Sheik Amar, who becomes a mentor to the prince. No word yet on who Kingsley plays.

Shooting is scheduled to begin in July in the U.K. and Morocco.

Dem muss ich mich aber anschließen. Hätte Jake Gyllenhaal gar nicht erkannt wenn ich nicht in der IMDb nachgeschaut hätte wer den Prinzen spielt, wusste es noch nicht.
