Dan Aykroyd on Ghostbusters 3 and Beyond

Dan Aykroyd has, for years, been hard at work, attempting to bring Ghostbusters 3 to the big screen. There have been quite a few stops and starts, but most recently plans seemed to be for the sequel to shoot in the fall of 2013. Today, Aykroyd tells Esquire that while he thinks a production start is closer than ever, the film still isn't a sure thing.

"ecause of the ever-shifting sands and nature of the motion-picture business, I will just say that hopefully, at some point, it will be morphing into what is known in the business as a 'production number XP39789,'" the actor explains. "Then I will begin to rent cars, get hotel rooms, and bill for writing. But that point hasn't come. All my work has been gratis to this point, as Ivan [Reitman]'s has, and I'm hoping that I can get that production number set up in L.A. and help everyone bring the movie to fruition, as the originator and creator of the concept."

Aykroyd goes on to reveal that, if the film does happen, a third adventure most likely won't be the end of the Ghostbusters as the current draft leads "organically" into a fourth film. His own plans would see him stepping away from the franchise as an actor but remaining aboard as a writer. As far as ideas go, he'd like to see a new team travel to Hell itself.

"Man-hell-ttan," he explains, "and the Ghostbusters in Hell would be so solid. But we gotta get maybe one or two made before that."

Und nach wie vor will ich keine JUNGEN Azubi-Ghostbusters.  Wird vielleicht doch Zeit, die Sache zu Grabe zu tragen.

Was redest du für Unsinn? Natürlich wird nun ein neues Drehbuch geschrieben und Aykroyd ist zuversichtlich wie nie (!), dass Murray dabei ist. Also ist Murray doch nicht mehr dabei, weil der erst wieder neu überredet werden muss, Idiot!  

Sorry, werdet Ihr nicht auch langsam bekloppt? "Definitiv" soll der Film 2014 gedreht werden...

Sollte der Film nicht schon "definitiv" 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 und 2012 gedreht werden?  ;)

Wie ich bereits sagte: Ich glaube gar nichts mehr. Erst wenn ich im Kino sitze, die Lichter ausgehen, der Vorhang auf und der Film beginnt, glaube ich, dass der Mythos "Ghostbusters 3" wahr ist.

Dan Aykroyd plaudert bei Larry King:

The much-anticipated Ghostbusters 3 is getting closer and closer to becoming a reality. Leading man Dan Aykroyd spoke today on "Larry King Now," revealing new details about the sequel's plot.

"It's based on new research that's being done in particle physics by the young men and women at Columbia University," he tells King. "...Basically, there's research being done that I can say that the world or the dimension that we live in, our four planes of existence, length, height, width and time, become threatened by some of the research that's being done. Ghostbusters -- new Ghostbusters -- have to come and solve the problem."

Unfortunately, it's looking quite likely that Bill Murray will not reprise his role as Peter Venkman in any way, shape or form, although Aykroyd is still optimistic for a last-minute change of heart.

"There will be a hole for him," Aykroyd says of his friend and co-star. "If Billy wants to walk in the door and be in the movie, we will find a place."

As previously revealed, Ghostbusters 3 will include a new team of younger Ghostbusters, all of which begin as Columbia University students. Although casting has not yet taken place, Aykroyd did confirm the return of one new actor from the original: Larry King will again play himself.

"Of course, we're going to be doing you in your new format as you comment on what's happening in Manhattan up there at Morningside Heights," Aykroyd tells King. "It's going to be quite a spectacular scene once the stuff starts to break."

Ivan Reitman is slated to direct Ghostbusters 3 with a script from Gene Stupnitsky, Lee Eisenberg and Etan Cohen. A release date has not yet been determined, but it has been rumored for 2014, the 30th anniversary of the original.

Ghostbusters III Script Being Reworked

Following the tragic loss of Harold Ramis yesterday, The Hollywood Reporter now has an update on the status of Ghostbusters III, which, according to their sources, is now being slightly reworked to remove a Ramis cameo.

Although plans had been for Ghostbusters III to shoot in Cleveland this year, the trade notes that the script still isn't quite ready to move forward. Ramis' planned involvement is said to have been minimal, however. The storyline will instead focus on a new generation of Ghostbusters with cameos from the original stars written into the script.

Dan Aykroyd previously said this of the plot:

Sie sollten es langsam nicht mehr Ghostbusters 3 nennen, sondern gleich als "New Ghostbusters" ein Reboot versuchen bzw. eine eigenständige Sub-Franchise aufbauen.

Ghostbusters 3 (wäre er jemals gekommen) ist mit Harold Ramis gestorben.
Und Bill Murray kann endlich aufhören, Gründe zu erfinden, warum er nicht mitmachen will und sich konkret darauf berufen, das er es ohne Ramis nicht machen will.

Jetzt müsste man nur noch Aykroyd davon überzeugen, dass eine richtige Fortsetzung mit einer verstorbenen "Hauptfigur" nicht so toll funktionieren kann. Das hat er ja leider schonmal nicht verstanden und ich denke, dass er sich davon auch nicht abbringen lassen wird.

Schon alleine die Idee, Spengler nur als Gastauftritt zu verheizen, hätte für mich gegen GB3 gesprochen. Manches soll einfach nicht sein.

Oder gleich den Film mit der Originalbesetzung, die alle von anderen Schauspielern gespielt werden... wer sind denn im Moment die 4 angesagtesten Stars in Hollywood? Oder macht Vorschläge. Auf jedenfall  brauchen wir Sam Jackson, oder Jamie Foxx für Winston. Ach ne, das wäre ja rassistisch.

Edit:  Vielleicht Jeremy Renner als Ray, Channing Tatum als Peter, Sam Jackson als Egon, und Shia LaBeouf als Winston.

Following the tragic loss of Harold Ramis last month, it was reported that the script for a third Ghostbusters film was being reworked. Now, Deadline brings word that Ivan Reitman is stepping down as the film's director and will help in finding a replacement as the studio targets an early 2015 production in the Big Apple.

The storyline is rumored to focus on a new generation of Ghostbusters with cameos from the original stars written into the script.

"[W]e now have a draft that is very good," Reitman tells the outlet. "That the studio is very excited about... It's a version of 'Ghostbusters' that has the originals in a very minor role. When I came back from Harold's funeral, it was really moving and it made me think about a lot of things. I'd just finished directing Draft Day, which I'm really happy with and proud of. Working on a film that is smaller and more dramatic was so much fun and satisfying. I just finally met with Amy and Doug Belgrad when I got back. I said I'd been thinking about it for weeks, that I'd rather just produce this Ghostbusters. I told them I thought I could help but let's find a really good director and make it with him. So that's what we've agreed will happen."

Wäre schon ziemlich cool, wenn der Vater mit dem Sohne und so. Jason Reitman ist frisch genug, um in Frage zu kommen. Die Frage ist eher, ob er überhaupt in die Fußstapfen seines Vaters treten will.

Earlier this week came the announcement that Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman was stepping down from the helm of the long-gestating Ghostbusters 3 following the death of Harold Ramis. Now, Nikki Finke reports that directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller are in talks to helm the project.

Lord and Miller have made quite a splash in recent years with Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs in 2009, 21 Jump Street in 2012 (which will see a sequel released later this year) and their most recent hit, The LEGO Movie. All of Lord and Miller's previously-released films have gone on to gross over $200 million at the global box office.

Set to begin production next year in New York City, the storyline is rumored to focus on a new generation of Ghostbusters with cameos from the original stars written into the script.
